10 questions + 10 top pieces below
What’s your favourite scary movie?
Oh Scream is 1000% my favorite movie. I love every single thing about the film – from Wes Craven’s direction to the cinematography, to the costumes and combat choreography, to the iconic performances and, of course, Kevin Williamson’s script. Other top tier favorites are Neil Marshall’s The Descent, which there isn’t enough fan art, John Carpenter’s Halloween, Ari Aster’s Hereditary, and Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby. I also have a huge soft spot for Todd Strauss-Schulson’s The Final Girls and Tom Holland’s Child’s Play. Don’t mean to sound like a douche adding directors’ names, but there are so many damn remakes I need to be specific!
What’s your favourite horror artwork you’ve created?
I’ll have a different answer for you tomorrow because I’m constantly (harshly) critiquing myself, but today I’m most proud of the Janet Leigh/Psycho portrait.
Favourite horror movie sequel?
Scream 2 is the perfect sequel, hands down. Friday the 13th: Jason Lives is one of my fav of the franchise, and NOES 3: Dream Warriors and Halloween 4 are my go-to choices for Freddy and Michael. I also have a pillowy soft spot for I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. I know. I’m a sucker for rainy horror films, fun chase scenes, camptastic plot holes and Brandy.
Least favourite sequel?
Urban Legends Final Cut always makes me feel dirty. I hate it. You have Loretta Devine reprising her (yes, iconic) role, a completely underused in early 2000s horror comedic genius Jessica Cauffiel, and a potential cool chase scene with Eva Mendes in a bell tower (!) SO IT SHOULD BE GOOD. But alas the most mmph it gives us is Matthew Davis’s buttcrack.
Favourite horror movie character?
Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers are my ultimate survivor favs… and let’s be real the entire cast of the first two Scream films. Can I list casts? OK great! The casts of Hereditary, Candyman, Night of the Living Dead (1968), Get Out, Jason Lives, The Final Girls, Us, and, of course, The Descent. Special shout outs to Annie in Halloween, Jesse Walsh in Freddy’s Revenge, and the ultimate monologist, Brenda from Urban Legend.
If you could bring one horror movie character back to life, who would it be?
They already brought back Laurie Strode so I’m good!
What horror film series would you revive if you could?
Friday the 13th! Would love to see it redone, set in the 80s, but without the Cabin in the Woods horror rules.
What film do you think deserves a sequel that never got one?
Planet Terror! More Rose McGowan, dammit!
Favourite kill scene?
Nothing kill shocked, saddened, and left me in ruin more than SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY Beth in The Descent. She was such a good friend and it was so sudden and shocking! #lemon #orgasm #how
What horror film do you think is underrated?
James Mangold’s Identity is a classic, I was obsessed with it in high school. Michele Soavi’s Stagefright is one of my favorite slashers from the 80s, and Paul Etheredge’s Hellbent is pretty solid underseen gay slasher.
