Questions and Artworks with Orlando Arocena
What’s your favorite scary movie?
Here are my Top 5: Jaws (1975), Halloween (1978), The Shining (1980), The Thing (1982), Alien (1979)
Hey, what can I say? I group in the ’80s- hahahahaha
What’s your favorite horror artwork you’ve created?
WOW! Grateful to say I’ve created quite a number for the industry. But it would have to be the Halloween Illustrated book. I recreated the cover and the 100+ illustrations in the reprinting of the 1978 Curtis Richards Halloween novelization, thanks to Printed In Blood and Compass International Pictures. You can order yours here!
When did you start making horror movie pieces?
Professionally I started way back in 1997 when I got my first job as an art director designing and reformatting posters to fit VHS and DVD packaging while at TROMA Films, in NYC. But my first official poster for a horror movie as an independent artist was the 35th Anniversary for ALIEN, for The Poster Posse/ACME Prints.
Which was soon followed by another one for 20th Century Fox…
My first official DVD SteelBooks were a set of 19 I created back in 2017 and I won my first Gold Clio award for them.
My very first horror movie theater one-sheet was La Llorona (2019).
And then they invited me back in 2021 to do The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It!
Favorite horror movie sequel?
Evil Dead 2
Least favorite sequel?
Exorcist II: The Heretic
Favorite horror movie character?
Ooooofff! So many! Michael Myers, Jason, Freddy, The Phantom of the Opera, Chucky.
If you could bring one horror movie character back to life, who would it be?
Would love to see a really dark, ultra-crazy version of The Phantom of the Opera!
Favorite horror movie scene?
When you think Halloween is over…
Favorite chase scene?
Running the maze during a snowstorm in The Shining!
Favorite kill scene?
This will always be my favorite kill scene.
