Much like my inhibitions after a few generously poured glasses of wine, horror and thriller movies are quickly fading from the cinematic landscape as the month of December continues its march towards 2019. The last major horror release of the year, The Possession of Hannah Grace, arrived in theaters this past weekend. Were audiences captivated by the offering, or does a quick exorcism from screens seem likely, based on the fright flick’s initial performance?
Without any major and/or new wide releases for the horror/thriller genres until January 4, 2019, at which time both Eli and Escape Room make their debuts, this will be my final weekly Horror Movie Box Office Report Card for 2018.
But stay tuned for my year end listing of 2018’s biggest horror and thriller movies at the box office. What was the year’s biggest money maker for the genre? Halloween (2018)? A Quiet Place? The Nun? I’ll not only give you a rundown of the box office champs domestically (ie: North America), but expand that coverage to include what films were globally the most successful, too. Consider it my belated Christmas gift to you. 🙂
So for the final time this year, here’s this past weekend’s (Nov 30 – Dec 2, 2018) North American box office body count of horror and thriller films, and their ranking within the Top 50.
