Rabbit: What’s your favourite scary movie?
Matthew: John Carpenter’s original 1978 classic: HALLOWEEN.
Rabbit: Who is your favourite horror movie character?
Matthew: If we’re talking villains, then Michael Myers for sure. If we’re talking protagonists, then I’d go with MacReady from John Carpenter’s THE THING.
Rabbit: When did you start doing horror art?
Matthew: I’ve been drawing my whole life… but it wasn’t until 2013 that I started to work professionally as an illustrator. Before that, I had a career as a classical pianist and musician, but I always wanted to see if I could actually work full-time as an artist. It was a big change to make, but one that I’m happy I made!
Rabbit: What’s your favourite horror piece you’ve done to date?
Matthew: I’ve been really lucky to work on a lot of super exciting projects… but I’m still very proud of the work I did on the SUSPIRIA re-release from Synapse Films. Having my painting featured as the cover of the collectable booklet was a real honour and a real treat for me as an artist.
Rabbit: I recently noticed your work at Drunken Cinema’s screenings of Scream and Scream 2. What was it like recreating posters for such an iconic horror series? Is there any chance we’ll get a Scream 3 and 4 poster?
Rabbit: Any new release horror movies you’re excited to see?
Matthew: Right now, I’m the most excited for Doctor Sleep! And of course, all the upcoming Halloween sequels in the works.
