The Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street franchises not only introduced horror fans to Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger, but to also nearly 300 of their victims. So when it comes to the objects of their bloodlust, do 3 iconic death machines prefer one sex over the other?
I decided to take a tour of this cinematic morgue to see if each member of the terrifying trio had a predilection for one sex over the other when the time came for someone to die. It’s a victims’ version of the battle-of-the-sexes, with “Dead Meat” (Men) and “Goner Girls” (Women) as the players, and Michael, Jason and Freddy as their very much hands-on coaches.
Before each killer’s scorecard is revealed though, here are some things you should know about how I arrived at their individual death tolls:
- Remakes and reboots were not included
- Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) was not included since this sequel hasn’t anything to do with Michael Myers
- Friday the 13th (1980) was not included since Jason Voorhees didn’t start his killing spree until the sequel (Anyone who saw Scream knows this to be true!)
- Friday the 13th V: A New Beginning (1985) was not included since [spoiler alert] the killer ended up being a Jason wannabe
- Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) was included since those responsible for the bloody deeds were doing so as a result of being possessed by the spirit of Jason
I should also remind everyone that I’m not perfect (especially when it comes to math), so I think it’s safe to say that a margin of error should be expected in some cases; a SMALL margin, of course!
