This past summer, news broke that two more Halloween films were on the way. The reboot trilogy would conclude with the final entry, Halloween Ends, in 2021, but first, we’d get the middle film, Halloween Kills on October 16, 2020.
Last year’s 40th Anniversary edition, which ignored all previous sequels, had the highest opening in the series’ history, making $76.2 million at the box office in its first weekend. A major success for Blumhouse and the cast and crew involved, and leading fans to speculate that, although it was advertised as the final showdown, we hadn’t seen the last of Michael Myers.
With October finally here, we’re just one year away from the release of Halloween Kills. I asked fellow Halloween lovers what they hoped to see in the new film and received a nice mix of responses.
First, here is what is confirmed:
Jamie Lee Curtis will return as Laurie Strode, along with the other Strode ladies played by Judy Greer and Andi Matichak.
Nick Castle and James Judd Courtney will both play The Shape again.
David Gordon Green is set to direct and John Carpenter, (who recently assured audiences at Comic Con in Philadelphia that the series wouldn’t be ending anytime soon) will again return to provide the score with his son Cody.
The character Tommy Doyle will be recast with Sixteen Candles star Anthony Michael Hall. The role was first offered to Paul Rudd, who played an adult Tommy in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers in 1995. Rudd expressed interest in returning, but was unable to as filming takes place the same time as the next Ghostbusters film. Many fans are outraged Brian Andrews, who originated the role of Tommy Doyle in 1978, wasn’t approached. Some have even started an online petition to bring Andrews back.
In more recent news, we learned that Kyle Richards will return as Lindsey Wallace. Richards expressed an interest in reprising her role in the 2018 film and even contacted Jamie Lee Curtis and the filmmakers asking to be a part of it. @scarlettoscara666 @thebeto00 and @louise_lulu44_
Star of Halloween: Season of the Witch, Tom Atkins stated in a recent interview that Charles Cyphers would be making a comeback as Sheriff Brackett. Although it’s pretty much official, this casting news is still pending confirmation.
Robert Longstreet has been cast as the grown-up Lonnie Elam, originally played by Brent Le Page in John Carpenter’s Halloween.
Most recently, it was announced that Nancy Stephens would return in the role of Nurse Marion Chambers. This will be her fourth time playing the character and might be the most exciting casting news yet!
With a full Haddonfield reunion in the works, here is what fellow Halloween fanatics want to see happen in next year’s Halloween Kills.
Plot Twists
@nect3rofficial would love to see Michael’s evil passed on, as was originally planned with Jamie Lloyd in the ending of Halloween 4.
@kilian_stawson would like to see a deranged Laurie Strode, while @christian_waldeck wants more of Laurie’s badass survival skills but in a different setting.
@1shotmfm is hoping for Rusty Griswold (“new Tommy” Anthony Michael Hall’s character in National Lampoon’s Vacation) to give Michael Myers some serious hell and @d.h_3714 is wondering what they’ll do to fix Michael’s injured hand.
Stalking & Callbacks
@michaelluigih2 is hoping for more stalking and real callbacks to Halloween 2, 4, and 5. @mr.rymac seconds the more stalking request.
@chrisnobile89 would like to see the stalking take place in a hospital setting like 1981’s Halloween 2. Additionally, he’d like to see more explicit kills and the story to end with a cliffhanger.
@tomo718x wants flashbacks to 1978 and @bfsmithforever409 would like for Carpenter to direct and compose.
Hospital Scenes
@misterjoker would also like to experience a hospital scene is Halloween Kills.
@prince5754 Would like it to take place in the hospital and for it to be the same night as Halloween 2018 with Sheriff Brackett, Tommy and Lindsey returning to help save Laurie. He’d also like to see more diversity in the cast.
Karen to Die
Karen, played by Judy Greer, clearly wasn’t a fan favourite in last year’s Halloween. @stesta621 wants the film to take place the same night, with absolute chaos in Haddonfield. He’d like to see an action-packed, tightly paced thriller ending with Karen being killed off in front of Laurie and Allyson. More specifically, he’d like the final scene to be a close up of Laurie’s rage-induced face before the credits roll.
@gore_ett_knowlesfx believes that for a middle chapter, it makes sense for it to be the darkest of the trilogy. He feels that rather than Laurie dying, a greater loss would be her daughter Karen, the one she tried to protect for all those years. He’d like for Michael to win in the end and for there not to be a cliffhanger.
Beloved Characters To Return
@xander_williams_2003 wants Nancy Stephens, Tom Atkins And Danielle Harris to appear in cameos or major roles. So far 1 of the 3 is confirmed to return! He wants it to be explained that Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) is one of Laurie’s daughters from her previous marriage. It’s doubtful this will happen but one can wish!
The Series to End
Even though we know Halloween Kills won’t be the final film, @bluesy_ty, who LOVES all of the Halloween films, is ready for the series to end. “Die Michael!”
Laurie to Die
@thebeto00 and @repsak14 want to see Laurie meet her fate, hopefully in a more compelling way than in Resurrection, and @johngueret also wants one of the Strode women to die to really show that Michael means business.
Cool Kills
@real_jayc just wants good scares and some good kills. More specifically, @big_g_entertainment would like to see a killing with a beer bottle.
@robbierobster wants more chase scenes. Totally agree with this one!
Tommy and Lindsey to Save the Day
@oliver_olivarria would like Tommy Doyle and Lindsey Wallace to save Laurie last minute and for Brackett to die as he tries to kill Michael.
What tricks and treats are you hoping for in Halloween Kills?
