Dollusional is a new short thriller written and directed by Vampa Del’Ombra.
Watch the trailer here!
Dollusional tells the tale of Dottie, a lonely and bored woman who becomes obsessed with James, a new employee at the vintage store where she works. When Dottie discovers a spell that can turn a person into a doll, she decides to cast it on James, believing it will make him hers forever. Set against the backdrop of a mysterious vintage store and infused with elements of magic and obsession, Dollusional explores the dangerous consequences of unchecked desires and the lengths one will go to fulfill them. This is the fourth film in the “Vampa’s Visions” anthology, hosted by the ghouly-girl herself, Vampa Del’Ombra.
A Q&A with Vampa Del’Ombra
Hi Vampa, thanks for joining us to discuss your upcoming horror short Dollusional! How did you come up with the concept for the film?
Hi! it’s my pleasure! Happy to be here! The idea for Dollusional came to me like all my other visions… While I sit quietly in my lair, I see things. I see things about the human condition that others don’t want to bother thinking about. It’s my obligation, as a ghoul filmmaker, to bring them to fruition to uncover and show just how bizarre and evil even the most mundane of humans can be.
It’s my obligation, as a ghoul filmmaker, to uncover and show you just how bizarre and evil even the most mundane of humans can be.
Were you inspired by any other films or filmmakers during the creative process?
My biggest filmmaking inspirations are Kenneth Anger, David Lynch, John Waters, Robert Altman, and Douglas Sirk. I want to make you uncomfortable, but I also want you to relate to my characters, and be able to laugh at them, and hopefully, yourselves.
What were some of the biggest challenges during the filmmaking process?
The biggest challenge in making this film was scheduling. We are working with a budget of $0, so shooting schedules had to be made around our cast and crew’s work and life schedules.
I understand the film has its live premiere on April 30th and a virtual premiere on May 11th. What do you have planned for these?
For our live SCREAMiere happening April 30th, at Oloman Cafe + Gallery in happenin’ Hamtramck, MI, folks can expect to meet the cast and crew, and we might even do a Q&A if there’s enough interest. All I hope is that we don’t accidentally turn anyone into a doll during this screening… If so, we have a reversal spell ready to go, JUST IN CASE. If you’re not local to the Detroit-area, you can catch the virtual SCREAMiere May 11th on YouTube. We’ll be hosting a live watch party, so audience members can chat live while they’re watching. Again, we cannot be held responsible for those transformed into a doll, although we will share the reversal spell at this time, too.
What are you hoping viewers will take away from the film?
I hope viewers exit this film feeling creeped out, inspired, and perhaps a little elated. There are some scenes in this short film that are like NOTHING you’ve ever seen before, so I expect some surprised individuals. I also hope that folks come up with their own interpretations on the meaning of this film, and I hope it starts conversations. All in all, I hope viewers have a good time.
