Charly Short is a series of short films with a maximum 3-minute run length.
Genre: Unexpected with a touch of horror and a small (or sometimes big) twist. 100% created, filmed, edited and acted by Charly, the alter ego of Charles Dekker. All the short films in the series have an unexpected outcome, often with a scare and largely without speech as the image is universal.
Charles Dekker Is a dutch filmmaker and is on the way to share all his creative ideas with the world through his shorts. He has a small budget and creates everything in-house. This means that he has to make optimal use of his creative ability to turn everyday situations into something special.
The ultimate goal is to make a featured film. Support Charly to achieve his goal.

MY NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE
Rabbit: Congratulations on your short film series, Charly Shorts, which offers a variety of unique and creepy films you can watch on the go. What inspired you to start creating the series?
Charles Dekker: Thanks! My inspiration for making a series of Charly Shorts lies in everyday situations you’ll recognize. They all include an unexpected ending/twist. I gave myself the challenge of doing all the work 100% alone. Scripting, camera, lights, acting and editing. So I not only have to create an unexpected story but also think of all the other elements because I don’t have an extra pair of hands assisting me. And they have to be extremely short so people can watch them, as you mentioned perfectly, ‘ on the go’.
Rabbit: What’s the creative process like when you develop a new short film?
CD: At first I look around me to find everyday situations. Then I sit, in silence, and try to start working on the plot. It may sound strange, but this process works best for me. Sometimes I may be walking through the woods, or fishing on my boat and an idea comes up. Then, I start writing a short script and working out the plot.
Rabbit: All your films have an element of horror to them. Are you a big fan of the genre?
CD: I’m not really a ‘slasher’ fan but I’m intrigued by building up tension. At first, I started filming interviews this way and soon I tried to make up stories to capture elements of horror in the footage. Then I saw the short movies of David Sandberg and Lotta Losten and I was sold. They were making shorts with just two people and had some bloody good ideas.
Rabbit: What was your favourite Charly Short to make? And what was your biggest challenge you’ve faced so far?
CD: Of course, I like them all ;), but one of my favourites is My Near Death Experience. That was the most challenging to build tension and the hand grab scene of my own hand at the end. Every time I see it, I start to laugh because I know…
Rabbit: I know you’d love to make a feature film one day. Any idea what you’d want to do in terms of the plot?
CD: I’d love to make a featured film with a team of enthusiastic people. Of course, it would be something with an unexpected ending.
Rabbit: What are you currently working on?
CD: I’m working on a new Charly Short which will be released online August 28th. It’s called MMM Mobile Money Maker. In other words, DBG, don’t be greedy! Just watch it!
