A Q&A with Writer/Director SamHel

Hi SamHel, thank you for joining us to discuss your upcoming splatter horror film GOREROT! Tell us about the concept for the film and how you came up with it? 

GOREROT started with the uptick in mixtapes being released. If you don’t know what mixtapes are they range from weird cartoons to adult content and live leak death videos that get edited together to a soundtrack. Lately, and from my experience in groups, they have been getting more popular and are the lowest depth of the disturbing media iceberg.

So my aspect is I wanted to make a nonsensical “mixtape” but include only stuff I filmed in a sort of low-budget Faces of Death scenario. With the budget we’re aiming for we will shoot more segments and if we hit the $10K goal we’ll have some interesting folks join the cast.

Were you inspired by other films of this kind or other filmmakers?

Faces of Death, Traces of Death, although we don’t have real deaths and gore the flow of those films are heavily influenced, as well as German splatter films like Das Komabrutale Duell and Ostermontag. Films from Olaf Ittenbach…where gallons of blood are used and strange things happen.  

Are there any limitations when you’re making these blood-soaked films or is everything on the table?

Everything is on the table. We have 7 segments that star a lovely cast of adult actors and models who are hyped to be getting bloody and gored up in the void of Vegas.

What is your biggest challenge with bringing GOREROT to life?

Getting eyes on it! I don’t think people entirely know what it is because the segments are briefly shown, but we are trying to create a practical FX spectacle of bizarre proportions, a new low-budget Faces of Death collection of gore and horror.

You have an Indiegogo campaign currently running for GOREROT. What are your goals and what perks can horror fans receive for supporting the film?

Digital downloads, DVDs, Blu-rays, props and more! If you’re in Europe & Germany you can get rights to release the film under your label! If you want to present the film you can have your name/company present the film. Pretty much anything is available to get us to that $10K goal!
