The Door Down the Hall

Two caring parents who want what’s best for their daughter, Paige, have a rule in place in their house that forbids Paige from entering the door down the hall from where she sleeps. She respects their rule, and happily adjusts to life in their care. But this doesn’t stop her curiosity and the nightmares she’s having. Despite the secrets still undeniably kept. On this night, Paige realizes that the paranormal activity in her bedroom and her horrifying nightmares have something to do with this secret. The Entity enters her dreams and lures her further into the mystery of which lies behind that door down the hall. In order to uncover what’s behind that door she tries to find out the code to unlock it, she does so by listening to the whispers and strange occurrences in her house. What follows her is the evil presence in her dreams and successfully gets Paige to open the door. But Paige realizes this was a big mistake.

Rabbit: What was the inspiration behind The Door Down The Hall? 

Christian: I wanted to make something short and simple but tell it the best way I could. I wanted to make something fun and entertaining. At the end of the day, movies need to be fun and entertaining, it can be shot beautifully but if it’s not catching anyone’s attention, what’s the point? I always had an eye for telling ghost stories, so I figured this was a great chance for me. Before this film, production design was my hobby. So I had an eye for set designing as well, so I really wanted to make this hallway I had in my head come to life.

Rabbit: Any standout scenes which were your favourite to film? 

Christian: When Paige gets pulled into the other side and realizes she made a big mistake. Viewers feel the tension in that scene, due in large part to the captivating VFX. It was definitely my favourite moment from the film without giving anything away.

Rabbit: I see you went to Toronto Film School to study Film Production at the same time as your brothers, Julian and Lucas. Did they play a role in creating the film or was this a solo project? 

Christian: My brothers support me in everything I do. Not just filmmaking but in everyday life, that’s what bro’s do, we look out for each other. My D.O.P Oleksii Furdiiak was a hero on this. I told him about the project, he was a little overwhelmed with it at first but he pushed through it with me, and we did it the way we wanted with some of the best cinematography I’ve seen. My brother Julian helped me with producing the project as well as editing and Lucas helped me with the production design. But no, this was not a solo project, I had the best team on this with me. I told my partners (Metal Monster Productions) about the idea and they loved it. I was very lucky to have a team (Patrick Delle Rose, Michael Uccello, Sevag Aksu) help make the idea come to life.

Rabbit: The film is in its festival run now. After that, is there a release date in mind? 

Christian: I believe after it’s festival run, which should be around the end of this year. We’ll have the film available to watch on Vimeo, Youtube, etc.
